Healing for the Spiritually Wounded

Spiritual Wounds

Over the past several years, mental health professionals have seen an increasing number of people seeking counseling and therapy because of painful religious and spiritual wounds. Others may not see spiritual wounds as the primary issue for seeking therapy, but do want to consider religious and spiritual issues along the way. However, numerous surveys suggest that most therapists and counselors don't feel confident in dealing with these issues in therapy. Even fewer therapists and counselors have received adequate training to help people through these struggles. Many consumers, too, have fears about discussing spiritual issues in therapy. Often, religious organizations warn that therapists and counselors may attempt to challenge people's religious beliefs or even try to take their beliefs away from them. Unfortunately, this does occasionally happen in therapy. The combination of these factors leads to a situation in which many people do not receive in help in overcoming their spiritual wounds.

Reason for this Web Site

Those suffering from spiritual wounds are often not aware of the resources which are available to help them. One of the primary purposes of this web site is to provide information about these resources. A second intention is helping people properly identify and utilize these resources. In addition, this web site is intended to provide a sense of hope that healing may be a possibility.

I should acknowledge that this web site is primarily focused on the therapy as a resource for healing. This is largely because my background is that of a being a psychologist and a psychotherapist. However, I do try to mention other resources for healing that may be appropriate for some individuals.

Design of the Web Site

The web site has been designed to be as user friendly as possible. For the general reader, it is recommended that you read through the web site in the order presented in the upper left box which appears on each page of the web site. However, for the reader who is interested only in specific content areas, it's been designed to quickly jump to items you are interested in. In each section or part, there is a menu to quickly jump to the specific content areas on that page. Most people will likely want to skip some sections which do not apply to their situation.
